The Criminal Investigations and Network Analysis (CINA) DHS Center of Excellence is hosting a week-long program for current and future leaders of the Minority Serving Institution community. The workshop will be hosted on the George Mason University campus in Fairfax, VA, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Through a combination of expert-led seminars, hands-on problem solving, and site visits, MSI students and faculty will learn about CINA’s innovative research, education, and training, and learn about career and research opportunities to counter Transnational Organized Crime and support the homeland security mission using methods such as:
- – Network Analysis
- – Forensics and Digital Forensics
- – Understanding Patterns of Criminal Activity
- – Criminal Investigative Processes
- – Data Analysis and Visualization
Additional details:
- – Teams must consist of 1 early career faculty member and 2-3 students (undergraduate or graduate)
- – All participants must be U.S. citizens.
- – Attendees must be available to attend the full workshop agenda each day during the week of June 24th – 28th, 2024.
- – All travel and lodging will be arranged and covered by the CINA Center.
- – Applications are due by Tuesday, April 30th, 2024. Selected participants will be notified no later than May 17th.
To be considered for selection, teams must submit:
- For early career faculty: a CV
- For students: Resume including GPA, grad date, and program of study
- For students: A brief written narrative from each student on their future aspirations and why they wish to attend the MSI Summer Workshop
- The names of other members of their team
Faculty and students should individually submit their own applications and materials in the portal below.
If there are 2 highly qualified students who are unable to apply due to no available early career faculty member, a request for an exception can be made. To apply for the exception to requirements, provide:
- For early career faculty: a CV, and a written letter of endorsement from the faculty member detailing their confidence in the students
- For students: Resume including GPA, grad date, and program of study
- For students: A brief written narrative from each student on their future aspirations and why they wish to attend the MSI Summer Workshop
- The names of other members of their team
