Sara Kien

Northern Arizona University

Dr. Kien has a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Northwestern University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Information and Data Science (MIDS) at UC Berkeley. She has over 20 years of research experience and has taught courses in cognitive psychology, statistics, research methods, and data science. She has mentored several students in both graduate and undergraduate research projects and has won multiple teaching awards. Her recent research employs survey method, web scraping, machine learning, and neural language modeling to investigate concepts of mental health and perceptions of mass shootings in social media discourse.
